Functions of Human Resources Management

To facilitates easy understanding  the function of HR manager may be broadly divided into two categories:


Functions of HRM

(1) Managerial Functions

(2) Operative Functions





(1) Managerial Functions

The followings are the managerial functions of HRM:-

(a) Planning : planning involves thinking in advance. planning is a difficult task which involves ability to think. To predict or to analyze and to come to decision. In this context of personnel management it requires the determination of human Resources needs. planning would involves:

  • Determining the needs of person.
  • Deciding the sources of procuring them.
  • Determining training needs of personnel.
  • Motivate for getting good performance.

(b) Organizing : Organizing is a process of allocating task among it's members for achieving Organizational objectives. The assignment of task and the fixings of  responsibility will be the function of personnel management. It decide who should do what, who is responsible to whom? This decision will be help in smooth working of the Organization.

(c) Directing : It is the basic function of management personnel. Directing mean telling people to do a particular work. It does not mean only issuing order to employees but it also ensure that  they perform as per the direction.

(d) Co-ordinating : Organisational objectives achieved only if group of activities in the Organizations are co-ordinated.There may be a problem of each group or development trying to Perdue it's own goals without bothering about overall objectives. Coordinated approach will help in achieving common goal.

(e) Controlling : Controlling is the act of checking, regulating and verifying whether everything occur as per the standard set and plans adopted. The performance of persons is regularly reviewed to find out whether it going according to the standard or not. Incase performance is low then steps are taken to improve it in further coordinating functions involves reviewing performance and taking corrective measures.

(2) Operative Functions

The following are the Operative Functions of Human Resources Management:-

(a) Procurement : This functions relates to the procuring of sufficient and appreciate numbers of persons for carrying out business work. The need of the requirements of persons. Decides number of procurement of suitable persons also the suitable types of people.

(b) Development : The Development function is concerned with the Development of employees by increasing there skill and efficiency to work. The persons are given proper training through various method. So that there performance is better in undertaking the jobs.

(c)  Compensation :  It is concerned with the equitable remuneration to persons working in Organizations. Job analysis helps in fixings various jobs .If  the employees paid less than they may not get motivated or satisfy  and may leave the job. So compensation should be fixed in such a way that it is able to attract and retain suitable persons in the Organizations.

(d) Integration : Integration is concerned with harmony of interest both of employees and the Organizations. This will help in creating good industrial relation by integrating them.

(e)   Maintenance :  This functions deals with better condition of work  should be maintained at all times. The employees will feel happy to work under such condition. This condition include establishment of health, sanitary, safety facility etc.
